I’ve got a treat for you if you love old needlework books as much as I do – they’re the DIY of a bygone time!

This entire collection of tags, cards, journal kit, prints and more is all based on an 1888 needlework manual which contains an astonishing number of patterns for fine and fancy needlework of all kinds.

The patterns themselves aren’t much more than descriptions with some general instructions which I’ve found is common in fancy work patterns of the time. The skills and basic knowledge to execute these complicated items were considered completely necessary and routinely taught to girls quite young.

While I’m pretty handy with a needle and thread by today’s standard, I’d be willing to bet a 12 year old of the time would sew rings around me!
